About Us

Moonracer

I’ve always loved animals and done what I could to help them. I went with HSUS (Humane Society of the United States) to Hattiesburg, MS after hurricane Katrina to help with stranded, lost and abandoned animals left behind after evacuations. My partner, David, came with me and we took care of over 500 animals during our stay there. No people ever came back for the dog I was lucky enough to bring home from that disaster, my beloved greyhound/shepherd mix, Barry. He made life wonderful for us for a little over 5 years. He recently passed away and I am now creating this animal rescue to honor him.

MoonracerI have interned at an elephant sanctuary in Arkansas for a month, helping to take care of 15 elephants, a herd that consisted of mothers and babies to adult bulls. I have two rescued cats, one who has a neurological disorder and is quite wobbly, but does OK for himself. I was an Anna Maria Island turtle watch volunteer for 6 years, and I’ve worked for Peta. HSUS and Peta are for some reason against no kill shelters and that is an entire story in itself, but, I am fighting for our county: Manatee County, FL to become a no kill shelter community.

I believe that if we work hard enough as a community that we can stop the senseless killing of our shelter animals and find them good homes!

It’s always the right time to do the right thing.
